Local Driving Instructors in and around Worcester are getting fed up with the inconsiderate and often illegal parking in Brindley Road Warndon. Worcester Driving Test Centre is in Stanier Road off Brindley Road so the first thing a prospective driver encounters on their driving test is frequently Lorries parked on both sides of the Road!
I am not suggesting that people taking their driving test should not be capable of dealing with some parked obstructions safely, but encountering large vehicles that are difficult to negotiate right at the beginning of your driving test when a correct decision could make the difference between a pass and a fail, is hardly fair particularly when the vehicles are illegally parked.
There has been a parking issue in Brindley road for several years, the council originally blamed the fast food van that parked just off the road there and used it as a reason to not renew the fast food operator’s licence, soon after the whole road was marked up with double yellow lines.
What did this achieve? Absolutely nothing in fact it got a whole lot worse! It seems that there is insufficient parking for the retail outlets around the Tesco express , though it seems that people are often just too lazy to park properly, often leaving their cars on the double yellow lines or even obstructing the pavement while they nip in to shops. These are not the worst offenders though, the real problem is with the large goods vehicles that park up to use the cash point or call in at the Mini Market. I do understand that it is difficult for the drivers of these types of vehicles to find suitable parking but that does not give them the right to park illegally!
The council must feel that the road should be kept clear hence the double yellow lines but what is the point if they are blatantly ignored on a daily basis and yes it really is that bad the road is more often obstructed than it is free!
If you are reading this article and you have parked on the lines in Brindley Rd in the past please have some consideration and don’t do it anymore. If you know anyone who has the capacity to enforce the parking restrictions then please encourage them to do so and make things a little easier for those people taking what many consider to be the hardest test they will ever take.
Driving Instructors seem to be in the press all too often when residents complain about them doing reversing exercises etc we do try to listen to the public and respect their wishes wherever possible. Now possibly the public can listen to us and help.
Worcester is lucky enough to have a very good driving instructor’s association and we will listen to the publics concerns and inform our members so that we can work more closely with the community the association “Worcester and district driving instructors” can be contacted through their website www.waddi.org
